Thanks to the sedentary lifestyle, obesity has become a major problem today and it is growing in epidemic proportions threatening to cause major damage to humanity. The health risks associated with obesity are extremely alarming. It is time to realize the alarming situation we are in and understand the numerous health risks related to obesity.

Coronary Heart Disease

With the increase in your body mass index, there is an increasing risk of getting coronary heart disease. Your arteries are known to supply fresh oxygen-rich blood directly to your heart. CHD is supposed to be a condition where the plaque is building up in your coronary arteries. This restricts the flow of oxygen-rich blood to your heart muscle. This could lead to a heart attack or angina. Obesity could be leading to a heart failure. This definitely is a grave situation where your heart is not able to pump adequate blood to cater to your body’s requirements.

High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure could be dangerous if it remains high over a period of time. It can cause a lot of damage to your body and adversely affect your health. Your chances of acquiring high blood pressure are quite high if you are having an obesity issue.

Stroke

If you are obese, there is bound to be a plaque build-up in your arteries. An area of the accumulated plaque could get ruptured and may cause a blood clot. If this blood clot is near your brain it could completely block the natural flow of oxygen and blood to your brain and end up causing a stroke. With the rise in your body mass index (BMI), there is an increased risk of getting a stroke.

Type 2 Diabetes

In the case of type 2 diabetes insulin is not properly used by the body. Diabetes is regarded as the main reason for an early or untimely death, kidney disease, stroke, CHD and blindness. Most individuals with type 2 diabetes are obese.

Irregular Blood Fats

If you are obese or overweight you could end up having unusual intensities of blood fats. You would certainly have high LDL (Bad Cholesterol) and HDL (Good Cholesterol). Metabolic syndrome increases your chances of getting a heart disease. It is nothing but a group of probable risk factors that may lead to diabetes.

Cancer

Cancers of the breast, colon, oesophagus and endometrial are associated with your obesity. Some studies have revealed that there are links between cancers of the ovaries, gallbladder and pancreas and your obesity.

Obesity and overweight also lead to an increase in the health risks even for teens and small children. Type 2 diabetes used to be a rare condition among the kids, but today there has been an alarming rise in the incidence of the disease. Moreover, overweight kids would most probably become obese adults and in future, encounter similar disease risks.
